Laurieton sits right under North Brother Mountain, and anyone who lives there knows how the mountain funnels wind and rain onto the town. That weather finds every weakness in old ridge cement, and on the eighties and nineties brick veneer homes around Kew and Lakewood the original pointing is often the first thing to give.
The big shade trees across the Camden Haven do not help either, holding damp over the ridge and dropping litter that hides crumbling mortar until a leak shows up inside. We rebed the loose caps in fresh mortar and repoint with a flexible compound that stays sealed through the wet.
What we do when we repoint your roof

It certainly can. The sea air off Pilot Beach and the wind and rain that North Brother pushes onto the town crack rigid cement over time. Flexible pointing compound is built to move with that instead of breaking.
Crumbling or missing mortar along the ridge, caps that rock or sit crooked, grey grit washing into the gutters and leaks that appear near the top of the roof all say the old pointing has had its day.
We will. Any cracked or damaged tiles near the ridge get replaced as part of the repoint, so the finished ridge line is completely watertight.
It varies with the metres of ridge capping, how easy the roof is to reach and how far gone the old mortar is. David quotes every job free of charge, so you know the full price before deciding.
